Edo State Primaries: A Storm In A Tea Cup.

Supremacy Contest Between Two Guns.

The incumbent Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Mr Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki would tackle it out with his predecessor and the national chairman of the APC Party Adam's Oshiomole. Explicitly, The Governor kicked against the idea of holding Primaries but insisted on direct Primaries with respect to Covid-19 policies contained in the recent gazette by the state government. The primary is scheduled to hold on June 22, 2020. Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission have said that it would only honor the decisions of both the National Chairman and the National Secretary. However, sections 85 (1) of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) and issued by INEC makes it compulsory for political party intending to nominate candidates for elective office positions to give the commission 21 days regard of its intention to conduct parties primaries. The state of dilemma between the duo floored all over the tabloids and have attracted the attention of the general public. The National Executive Committee would arrange a meeting in a view to restore peace and bring to normalcy the existing feud between both parties.
