Sexual Violence: Nigerian Reps Blackballs Castration As Capital Punishment For Rape

The House at the Plenary today, have rejected the outcry of masses calling for Castration as a capital punishment against rape. The members voted against the motion which had been earlier suggested by Mr James Faleke (a member) that people found guilty of the crime should be held culpable for Castration. Swift to the recent rising in rape cases in Nigeria, which can also be tagged as a call of distress, the President as well as the lawmakers have called out on the Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammed Adamu to take up the cases of the following Victims; Uwa Omozuwa, Tina Ezekwe and other minor violence cases against across the Federation. The debate on sexual violence against women, Social vices and police brutality generated into an overheated argument which lasted for over two hours. In the final analysis, the speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila described the situation as ungodly and despicable act across both genders. However, the speaker put forth a question asked that "what would happen to an older female who rapes a younger Male?". Reactions to the question from the lawmakers gave rise to a voting session of which the Nays had the upper hand. The lawmakers impel the Federal Government to put up an effective campaign against rape and other act of violence against women for proper sensitisation of the citizens. Conclusively, the House agreed that members to be dressed in black on next week Tuesday's legislative meeting, in commemorative honor of the fallen victims.
